Where the reader enters

CAMILLA WELLTON · DIARY

By Camilla Wellton

You know how you would like to feel when you walk into a room. You have chosen the clothes carefully. Then a familiar person says something familiar, and you find yourself responding in the old way before you have had time to consider it.

The image you want to inhabit and the habits available in a particular moment can move at different speeds. I find that space between intention and everyday experience deeply interesting. How do we stay in touch with ourselves while actually living, choosing and relating to other people?

I began developing I AWAKE in 2021. The work grew from the same interest that had led me into fashion: creating forms through which someone could explore a relationship with herself and enjoy being who she is. In the books, the reader becomes an active participant in that exploration.

Giving attention somewhere to go

The I AWAKE universe contains three journeys: The Sensual Hero’s Journey, The Creative Hero’s Journey and The Hidden Hero’s Journey. They approach different parts of life, from sensual experience and relationships to creative possibility and the meanings that shape how we perceive the world.

The complete nine-book series The Sensual Hero’s Journey was published on 30 September 2026. Its books move through self-image, relationships and past experiences, then body, thoughts and feelings, towards wholeness, pleasure and the life you want to create.

Reading is part of the experience. So are writing, drawing and audio-guided practices and soundscapes, with my voice and original music. In each chapter of The Sensual Hero’s Journey, a body map gives you a place to draw where you notice a response in your body. Questions help you relate the text to something that is happening in your own life.

The seven stages of each guided journey can be taken at your own pace. You bring the time, circumstances and questions that make the work particular to you. A sentence may mean something different when you return to it after a conversation or a change in your life.

From an insight to something you can practise

The Human Capacity Framework developed for I AWAKE gives this exploration a practical vocabulary. You can follow an experience into abilities such as recognising the roles that shape your self-image, expressing a preference or making a choice while remaining open to what you learn.

I AWAKE offers an accessible application connected to the wider Human Capacity Framework at the Swedish Institute of Inner Technology. That wider work considers the capacities through which we direct attention, exercise judgement, act with agency and take responsibility within relationships. The connection matters to me because our inner lives participate in the lives we share.

You might begin with a familiar moment in the wardrobe: “I would love to wear this, but it is not me.” What does that sentence refer to? A practical preference? An old description of yourself? A fear of somebody’s response? Following the question can reveal what kind of choice is actually waiting.

There is more than one way into the work

The Creative Hero’s Journey explores giving purpose and possibility a form. The Hidden Hero’s Journey considers the deeper patterns and interpretations that influence experience. Within it, Reality Revealed brings together a substantial book, an original system of seventy-eight cards and a course.

Stories also belong here. Eros and Ananke, which I wrote and recorded, approaches grown-up questions of pleasure, fear, structure and impulse through an imagined world. Science fiction and storytelling have long been part of how I make room for possibilities beyond the familiar.

A garment lets you step into a form. A book can give you time to examine the forms your life has taken and imagine what you would like to shape next. The reader enters with a life of her own, and that is where the work becomes specific.
