I know a collection is beginning to find its voice when the pieces recognise one another without repeating themselves. A curve may return in a new place; a sleeve may carry the same intention as a dress. I love building that family resemblance, then leaving room for each garment to surprise.
From The Rise collection
Tell me who will wear the collection and what you want her to feel. Bring the images, materials and questions that have been gathering around the idea. I begin with proportion and silhouette, looking for the few decisions that will give the work its own unmistakable language.
I learned to think in whole wardrobes by making each kind of garment, one at a time: skirts, trousers, jersey tops, coats and bags. Eventually I could see how their proportions might speak to one another without becoming identical. We can develop the concept, shape a selection of looks and refine that relationship. Some pieces may ask for drama, others for quiet. My years of yoga and meditation keep my attention on the moving body; my love of science fiction leaves the door open to what the silhouette might become.
If the collection needs to move beyond drawings, I can develop selected woven designs into patterns, toiles and first samples. The fabric and the fitting often reveal what the drawing could not. We agree the number of pieces, stages, responsibilities and handover before work begins.
My studio is in Stockholm. I take on carefully chosen commissions and can travel for short periods when the work calls for it. The fee follows the collection’s scope and the development we agree.
Send your brand or project background, intended wearer, visual references, approximate number of looks, material direction, budget and timetable.
