To fashion is to shape. I began with textiles, but what interested me was also what the clothes could help me feel, strengthen and express. A garment gives an inner experience a form I can step into. It changes the outline I present to the world and becomes part of how the world meets me.
This Diary follows that relationship through making, movement, self-image and the lives we share. It also follows the places fashion has taken me: music, speculative worlds, writing and the development of human capacities. Yoga and meditation have been central to my collections, alongside science fiction. Attention to the body and the freedom to imagine have always belonged together in my work.
These are reflections on what we shape when we get dressed, and what continues to take shape after we leave the mirror.
Nine ways of shaping a silhouette, and the experience of wearing it. A closer look at the collections, from sculptural outerwear to early streetwear, following the details that give each its character.
